I have to say that any ASM book is a good investment. Even though I am a metallurgist I needed to review several things and this book was a very good reference. This is the book that ASM teaches the class with the same title with. I have read most of it and plan on taking the class when it comes to town.

Good book, I enjoyed reading it. I found a lot of the subject matter to be quite basic so if you have little or no prior knowledge its probably a good reference. I would have liked to see more coverage and explanations of the different microstructures; the formation of. Overall I thought it was a good read though.

International Books sent me a "1979" version of book "Pricing" by Monroe. The book I viewed and purchased via amazon did not look like the copy I received which was a hardcover green book 1979 edition. This should never happened and I expect a full refund from Amazon and/or International books.

This book is the result of more than three years of work. My inspiration for writing my third book on the subject of creating wire trees and other pieces using wire, came to me while showing my work at many art and craft shows, and in art galleries. Interested people would ask me how I got started, and, some people, who were really interested in my work, said I should write a book showing how I create my tree sculpture. I have taken great care in creating this third book, not only adding many more different types of sculpture, but also adding many extras I think the reader will find very helpful. I not only explain and illustrate for you, how to create each piece, I also show or explain how to use a basic item to create many more variations of each item. This book contains 138 pages with over 400 photos and illustrations. Plus, based on my over 30 years of creating and showing my work, I have added many pages I have called ”Extras”. These extras will help you with many different topics, such as: Photography, Pricing your work, Shipping your work, Accepting commissions, Attending art and craft shows, Consigning your work, and many more. I am in awe of the stately presence and silent majesty they posses. I find the structure of trees to be one of the perfections in nature. With their roots embracing the earth; in winter they show their bones, in spring gentle buds, in summer a canopy of green and in fall a magical kaleidoscope of colors. Beauty, pure beauty.

About the Author
Sal Villano was born in New York City in 1944 into a large extended family of many artists. So, at a very young age he was always very aware of art in his life and was naturally attracted to expressing himself visually. He attended public grade school, high school and college. He also studied at The Art Students League in Manhattan. While still in college he assisted his uncle Charles Santaniello, a sculptor, in creating commercial displays for many New York businesses. And helped produce parts of an exhibit for a Worlds Fair in Europe. It was this time spent working with his uncle that he realized he too wanted to be a sculptor. After graduating college he went to work as a commercial artist. In 1969, after several years at this position he started his own art studio with another artist, this partnership provided the opportunity to produce a wide verity of commercial work. It was at the time he spent at the Art Students league that Sal created his first wire tree sculpture, while constructing an armature to support a clay figure, he noticed that the wire he was using could also be bent, twisted and wrapped to create a tree sculpture. Whether viewed in direct sunlight casting harsh shadows or in soft candle light creating a gentle form, the tree sculptures created by Sal Villano each take on a personality of their own. An Excellent Wire Tree Book

Excellent book, with so much information you will need to take time to digest it all. I've been making little trees for a while, but was curious what to do about making bases. The author has many ideas on the subject, so there's sure to be something for anyone who has ever wanted to do this. You don't have to follow his methods exactly, but you will learn a lot from him no matter what you choose to do.

Beaded wire sculptures of trees.

This book is an excellent resource for any one that is interested in this type of wire sculpture. The instructions are simple and complete. There is a complete list of the supplies and resources to get these supplies. The illustrations are simple and professionally done. Sal Vallano was very inspirational in his approach from the opening with the poem "Trees". You can copy the designs that he illustrated but for me this is a guide and the answer to putting what my mind conceives into the art with his technique. This book is a must have for anyone that have the slightest interest in wire sculpture.

I bought this because it was popping up a lot of places including the LRB who sponsored a reading at their bookstore. And I was in the mood a fresh approach to poetry ... and I got fresh and stale. I can't precisely locate the odd combination of conservative commonsense and the provacative ellipsis ... over the length of this short book the conservative undercurrent became more pronounced and irritating, not because he was arguing the old test-of-time aesthetic, but more because of what was left out. After reading this book I picked up a biography of the New York School to refesh my sense of the real and slyly radical work taht can be done in poetry ... Maxwell focuses too much in the Modern break of WWI and the subsequent the effort to tie 20th century poetry back to tradition felt unbalanced ... yes, the connective points are good and well, but the breaking is more important and oddly a kind of tradition in itself and it gets short shrift .... this was the kind of a book that made me feel the frustration of one way media ... lots of interesting moments and funny takes on the creative writing classes he teaches. Definately something here, but also a lot missing for me.

If you want to be a poet and know nothing about it, don't read this book!

I learned prosody from Yvor Winters, and I am not at all sure that Mr. Maxwell really understands iambic pentameter and its variations, permissible or not. If you already are knowledgeable about poetry, don't bother reading this book. And if you are a beginner, don't try to learn from this book. The chapter on theater did have some interest.
